CLEVELAND, MISS. (JAN. 21, 2025) — GRAMMY®-nominated songwriter, singer and producer David Porter — known for penning songs for artists such as James Brown, Celine Dion, Drake, Eminem, Aretha Franklin, Bonnie Raitt, Otis Redding, ZZ Top, and more — will make a special appearance at GRAMMY Museum® Mississippi for an installment of their An Evening With series.

The program will be moderated by Gebre Waddell. Gebre Waddell is an American entrepreneur, author, and audio engineer from Memphis, Tennessee. He is the CEO and co-founder of Sound Credit, a pioneering technology platform for the music industry, and serves as the Secretary/Treasurer of the Board of Trustees of the Recording Academy.

Sponsored by Mississippi Arts Commission and Visit Mississippi, the event will take place on Thursday, Feb. 13 at 7 p.m. in the Sanders Soundstage. A reception will take place before the event at 6 p.m. featuring a cash bar and light hors d'oeuvres.

MEM Prepares for Winter Weather Operations

Memphis International Airport prepares for winter weather operations

MEMPHIS, TENN. (January 8, 2025) – With winter precipitation in the forecast this week, Memphis International Airport (MEM) is providing passengers with information about how winter weather affects air travel and how the airport works to keep flights arriving and departing safely:

Snow Operations:

When winter weather is forecast, MEM schedules its crews based on the amount, duration and type of the expected precipitation. Snow and ice require different types of treatment.
The goal is to prevent the buildup of ice and snow on runways and taxiways so that aircraft can continue to operate safely. Crews also work around the clock to clear ramps, service roads, terminal roadways, fuel farm loading areas and more.
MEM has more than 40 vehicles dedicated to snow/ice removal, including snow brooms, plow trucks, snow blowers, liquid and granular de-icing trucks, and tractors.
Approximately 140 employees from airfield and building maintenance are available for snow operations, along with staff from Operations, Communications, Airport Police, Procurement, and other areas. The vast majority of the Airport Authority’s 300 employees are involved in winter weather operations in some capacity.
Airfield crews will work around the clock to clear runways.
MEM’s centralized deicing facility will be active for airlines to perform deicing operations as needed.

Airlines:

Passengers should contact their airline before traveling. Airlines manage all aspects of scheduling and will have the most up-to-date information. Early morning flights in particular could be affected.
Even if MEM is open with flights arriving and departing, weather across the U.S. could disrupt airline schedules this week.
Airlines are responsible for all aspects of ticketing, baggage, and gate operations.

While MEM is responsible for clearing runways and taxiways, airlines handle all aspects of deicing aircraft including staffing, application and equipment maintenance.

Other Passenger Information:

Allow for extra time to get to the airport due to road conditions. It is recommended that they arrive at the airport at least two hours prior to their scheduled departure.

Memphis International Airport announces World Class Tour dates for 2023

Memphis International Airport (MEM) has announced its Jon K. Thompson World Class Tour dates for 2023. The first tour of the year will take place on March 23.

Named after Jon K. Thompson, one of the Airport Authority’s longest-serving board members, these tours are designed to give attendees a better look at the airport’s operations and a better understanding about the important role MEM plays in the Mid-South economy.

The tours will take place from 8 to 10:30 a.m. on the following dates:

At the conclusion of the bus tour, attendees will also have the option of a walking tour of the new modernized concourse.

“The World Class Tour allows the public to learn about the past, present and future as it relates to MEM and its operations and projects,” said Scott Brockman, President and CEO of Memphis-Shelby County Airport Authority. “This is a unique opportunity for our community to have a behind-the-scenes airport experience.”

Sales and Marketing Coordinator

This position is responsible for generating and following up with sales of the event space. A successful Sales and Marketing Coordinator manages the relationship between the client or event producer and the rest of the Agricenter team. They follow up on all leads, schedule events, manage contracts, and coordinate activities with the rest of the campus. Works with all departments on communication around the events and perform these responsibilities in a professional manner. Ability to work a flexible schedule is very important.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Aggressively seek new contacts and maintain working relationships with all civic and event organizations, and event and booking representatives.

2. Remain current on national trends in the industry and local market changes to best serve the facility.

3. Establish and maintain relationships with industry influencers and key community and strategic partners for maximum facility usage and exposure.

4. Represent the facility at trade shows and community events when required.

5. Ensure the successful achievement of the organization’s short- and long-term goals and

objectives.

6. Lead and initiate the preparation of the portion of Agricenter’s budget that pertains to revenue and expense for Event Sales and Coordination.

7. Assist in compiling on-going sales activity reports for Agricenter management team.

8. Attend weekly staff meetings for coordination of upcoming events.

9. Conduct site tours/visits with potential clients.

10. Verify space reservations, quote prices by letter/email, prepare sales contracts, and obtain signatures and insurance certifications.

11. Collect and compile competitive data regarding services, rentals, and event space.

12. Conduct site tours/visits with potential clients.

13. Schedule and track event requirements within assigned target markets.

14. Maintain ongoing relationships and communications with clients and outside contract services for a positive image.

15. Communicate and advance all event information to appropriate staff and managers.

16. Participate in development of annual budgets; monitor and manage on-going event services expenses within budget.

17. Follow through on events, from initial contact through event completion.

18. Other duties as assigned by the President of Agricenter Sales and Marketing Director.

Qualifications:

1. College degree (BA); or three years of sales and/or operations experience in a similar type facility; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Degree in marketing, management, or business-related field preferred.

2. Experience working in a computer network environment utilizing Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and sales/event management programs.

3. Knowledge of event production and operations, including coordinating events with promoters, pre-event planning, organizing physical facility, and staffing.

4. Ability to compile and maintain records of personnel scheduling, and event scheduling.

5. Excellent communication skills

6. Proven ability to deal in a professional and cordial manner with the public attending events.

7. Ability to plan, service, and supervise a variety of events with the assistance and cooperation of other staff members.

8. Ability to multi-task.

9. Willingness to work a flexible schedule.

Event and Marketing Intern

Based on the interest from undergraduate and graduate students working with our organization we are pleased to offer internships during the fall, spring, and summer semester. Internships can focus on non-profit work, Events and Marketing, education, or research. Each semester, 2-4 interns will be selected from this competitive program to serve as interns for the non-profit. Internships are paid positions, but we will work with your college or university regarding class credit, if desired.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Work with the Event Coordinator in planning and executing events for the non-profit.

2. Work with the accounting department to ensure the success of individual events.

3. Work will include database management, acquiring silent auction items, working with groups, planning for events, and coordinating other work as needed.

4. Work with the education department for maximum utilization of facilities.

5. Some of the activities can be outside. This position will be expected to work with a wide age range of clients on a daily basis.

6. Represent the facility at trade shows and community events when required.

7. Consult newspapers, trade journals, websites, social media sites, and other publications to learn about contemplated new event and meeting activity.

8. Ensure the successful achievement of the organization’s short- and long-term goals and

objectives.

9. Attend weekly staff meetings for coordination of upcoming events with operations team.

10. Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

Qualifications:

1. Eligible interns must have completed at least one year of undergraduate school with a minimum 2.8 GPA. Graduate level students are also encouraged to apply. Experience working in a computer network environment utilizing Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and sales/event management programs.

2. Excellent communication skills.

3. Proven ability to deal in a professional and cordial manner with the public attending events.

4. Ability to multi-task.

"Elvis: Dressed To Rock" Exhibit Opens at Graceland in Memphis

Elvis Presley's Graceland is opening a new exhibit called Elvis: Dressed To Rock on May 7. The exhibit will explore Elvis' on-stage style from 1969-1977 through more than 100 pieces of iconic stagewear, including jumpsuits, capes, belts, jewelry, original designer sketches and more.

This limited-time exhibit will feature a dramatic 21-foot floor-to-ceiling display of Elvis iconic stage costumes in a newly reimagined area of Elvis: The Entertainer Museum at Elvis Presley's Memphis, and allow visitors to see Elvis' jumpsuits like they never have before. Throughout the exhibit, visitors will immerse themselves in many of the fashion pieces that defined the King of Rock 'n' Roll's style and career, all part of Graceland extensive archive collection.

From the two-piece tunics worn in 1969 in Las Vegas, to the last jumpsuit Elvis wore on stage in Indianapolis, Elvis: Dressed to Rock will showcase over 100 pieces of stagewear worn by the king including stunning jumpsuits, beautifully detailed capes, numerous belts, two-piece suits, studded boots, jewelry, and more. In addition, guests will see outfits displayed for the first time ever as their complete sets, including three Cisco Kid two-piece outfits, worn in Las Vegas in 1971, and two of Elvis' Dude Suits, worn in Las Vegas in 1972.

Aloha from Hawaii jumpsuit, worn for the first-ever satellite concert
Aztec Sun jumpsuit, the last jumpsuit Elvis wore on stage
TCB Custom-made Ring, worn on stage the last few years of his career
Original Drawings by Bill Belew, designer of Elvis' stagewear and personal wardrobe from 1968-1977
Jumpsuits worn in Las Vegas 1970, featured in his first concert documentary “Elvis: That's The Way It Is”

Admission to the exhibit is included with all Graceland tickets as part of the Elvis Presley's Memphis experience.

On Demand; Show to Highlight Performances, Speeches & The City of Memphis

Memphis, TN… This Thursday evening, March 31, 2022, at 7:00 CST, a one-hour “Memphis Music Hall of Fame 10th Anniversary Celebration” broadcast is scheduled to air nationally via Circle Network. The program will celebrate the Hall of Fame and its world-changing inductees, as well as Memphis, the “Home of Blues, Soul and Rock ‘n’ Roll,” and the musical state of Tennessee. Circle Network’s national reach of over 100 affiliates across 39 states has the potential of promoting the Memphis Music Hall of Fame and Memphis music to millions of households across the U.S., and millions more through worldwide streaming.

The show features a great selection of musical performances, star-studded award presentations and memorable acceptance speeches from the Hall’s past ten years… including clips featuring Keith Richards, Justin Timberlake, John Prine, Jerry Lee Lewis, The Blackwood Brothers, Sam Moore, Billy Gibbons, Steve Cropper, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Dan Penn, Charlie Musselwhite and many more. Markova Reed serves as the show’s host, with Chris Steinmetz reporting from sites around the city including Central Station, world-famous Beale Street, and overlooking the Mississippi River in downtown Memphis. The program was produced by Spotlight Productions of Memphis, working with staff of the Memphis Music Hall of Fame and the Memphis Rock ‘n’ Soul Museum, which administers the annual Induction Ceremony.
